When a product is rated "poor" or "bad", Yuka identifies, via an algorithm, similar products with a higher rating ("good" or "excellent").
The recommendations are selected in a completely neutral and objective way: no brand pays or influences Yuka in order to appear in the recommendations.
The algorithm for selecting healthier alternatives takes the following into account:
1) The product category (strawberry cookies, goat milk yogurt, lip balm, bar soap, etc.) in order to recommend a product as similar to the original product as possible.
If no better alternative exists within the scanned category, Yuka may suggest an alternative in the higher category ).
2) Product availability, in order to recommend products which can be found easily.
3) The product rating in order to only recommend highly rated products, i.e. "good" or "excellent".
The suggested alternatives are sorted by default based on availability, but the user can choose to sort them by score.
